More than 45 physician members and their guests joined us for a great time at our AGM on November 2nd at the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort. It was a fun and interactive AGM with plenty of networking time and a post-business program that had everyone on the edge of their seats!
After a busy knowledge lounge showcasing Division work we were honoured to have Elder THE-LA-ME-YÉ Shirley Alphonse bless the dinner.
Here are some AGM highlights:
- In the directors’ report, Dr. Melissa Duff acknowledged that this year, for the first time in decades, there’s a sense of hope, renewal, and optimism in family medicine. Remuneration has improved for many, and more provincial stabilization steps are underway. At the Division level, the expanding Urban Locum Program pilot, the Greater Victoria Peer Support pilot and the Primary Care Network’s good progress are just some of the big wins in 2022-23. If you haven’t already, check out our VDFP impact report featuring our achievements.
- A shout-out was given to Dr. David Harrison for his many contributions to the board as he stepped down as director.
- The new board was announced:
– The elected members are Dr. Ami Brosseau, Dr. Sarah Chritchley, Dr. Melissa Duff, Dr. Margaret Manville, and Dr. Anna Mason.
– Dr. Kristen Iverson is continuing in the second year of her term as director.
– The appointed directors are Dr. Ali Dozzi (new-to-practice FP), Dr. Brett Dueck (year-one resident), Dr. Steve Goodchild (policy development experience), Mr. Peter Lockie (financial experience), and Dr. Carien Smit (year-two resident). - A physician asked about provincial PCN governance changes. Dr. Duff shared that there are still some unknowns. “What we do know is that the new governance model intends to better reflect how the PCN operates. The physician/division voice at the PCN Steering Committee will be strengthened and the floor will be opened to additional voices from across primary care (e.g. midwives, NPs, episodic care).” Check out the Family Practice Services Committee’s latest high-level update and the refreshed Terms of Reference template for PCN steering committees.
- Members also took the mic to express their appreciation: “Kudos to Dr. Duff for her amazing leadership at the division and PCN tables and all she is bringing on. The social worker and RN on our team are a game changer.” And: “VDFP Beer Banters are so much fun!”
- A heart-pounding trivia showdown made up the grand finale. From “name that tune” to best guesses on celebrity photos to building and flying paper airplanes, our quizmasters brought out the competitive spirit and belly laughter. Three teams were crowned, but the real winner was the fun everyone had! Get ready for more in the future.
Thank you all for participating in your Division and keeping our community strong. Please be in touch with Executive Director Catriona Park at [email protected] if you have questions or concerns.
