Shared Care Project:
The Shared Care Project Steering Committee has expanded to a larger group to include various perspectives on perinatal care. Members now include: Sarah Lea, Family Physician-Obstetrician; Shana Johnston, Family Physician-Obstetrician; Stephanie Mancini, Family Physician-Obstetrician; Astrid Fritzche, Registered Midwife; Elizabeth Hayward, Peer; Flora Teng, Obstetrician; Jane Baker, Registered Midwife; Lauren Kitney, Pediatrician; Rebecca Geddes, Registered Midwife; Melissa Duff, Family Physician; Trapper Edison, Island Health – Director; Hayley Bos, Obstetrician.
The committee is busy drafting a model of pregnancy care for vulnerable people which will then be shared with the larger perinatal community for feedback. We will be reaching out for your input during the summer and early fall.
Attachment Update:
The Health Connect Registry (HCR) remains busy attaching pregnant people and their newborn to longitudinal FPs and NPs. The Victoria HCR has received 181 perinatal related priority referrals and has attached 119 people since January 2024. The South Island HCR has attached 204 perinatal priority-related referrals over the past year.
Coastal Maternity Care:
The greater Victoria area now has one group of FP-OBs (with 2 additional FP-OBs accepting patients) who share maternity and hospital care at VGH. Routine prenatal appointments continue to occur in the various FP-OB office locations. An FP-OB is on call 24 hours a day, either by phone or at the hospital for urgent maternity issues as well as labour and delivery.
A NEW central referral for patients is now available for estimated due dates of December 2024 and beyond! People can self-refer with just their last menstrual period or due date to get matched to an FP-OB instead of calling around to each individual office.
Please note Dr Tracy Mihalkyuk is not participating in the central referral system and continues to accept perinatal referrals by direct referral. If you would like more information, please contact division co-leads Amy Cuthbertson ([email protected]) or Lorelei Johnson ([email protected]) for more information.
Antenatal Assessment Unit (AAU) Unattached Clinic Update:
For patients who are unable to find a perinatal provider (either a midwife or a FP-OB), the AAU clinic at Victoria General Hospital is continuing to provide pregnancy care. RMs and FP-OBs provide prenatal care with support by RNs. Patients can call 250 727 4187 to book an appointment.
