Island Health is inviting clinics to apply for participation in the Practice Ready Assessment (PRA-BC) program. This program supports internationally educated and experienced family physicians who trained in countries without reciprocal licensing agreements.
Physicians complete a 12-week Clinical Field Assessment in one clinic, followed by a three-year Return of Service placement at another clinic where they join the team as a full-time family physician. Hosting a PRA-BC physician can support your clinic’s growth or retirement planning while also helping meet our region’s growing need for family physicians.
Applications are due by end of day Friday, January 16, 2026. Successful clinics will be matched with a physician who will be practice-ready by spring or fall 2027, depending on the intake cycle. Read more in the application call-out.
Interested in supporting the PRA-BC program as an assessor?
The program is also seeking physicians to serve as assessors for the 12-week Clinical Field Assessment. Assessors help evaluate internationally educated physicians as they transition into practice. Compensation is provided and assessors are eligible for CPD credits. View details in the Assessors Wanted information sheet and the Assessor Compensation handout.
Please note that the application forms are set up for legal-size paper. If you choose to print the forms instead of using the fillable PDF, please ensure you print on legal-size paper. If the form is printed on standard letter-size paper, sections will be cut off, and the application will be incomplete.
