Exciting Opportunity from the Island Medical Program – Year 1 & 2 Family Practice!
We are delighted to announce that we are looking for some new Family Physician Community Teachers for Year 1 and 2 medical students.
Family Practice Office Visits offer the students’ first exposure to real life patient care. This is a great way to get involved with teaching with a low time commitment and no preparation necessary. One student comes to your office for 2 hours at a time 4-8 times in the fall or spring. You carry on with your practice both in person and virtual with a student working with you. Students are incredibly excited and thankful to have this opportunity and most patients and preceptors find it a wonderful and rewarding experience.
The First Patient Program pairs medical students with members of the community who are living with a chronic medical condition and require ongoing extensive medical follow up with health care professionals. The program gives students a longitudinal understanding of their First Patient’s experience – that is, how a chronic condition affects the patient over time, including their social, mental, and emotional well-being. Physicians involved in this program identify a patient and meet with their students twice over the year.
Clinical Faculty are remunerated at $91.80 per session (typically 2 hours) for Family Practice teaching.
We would love to welcome you to the program!
