Position Overview

Terra Nova Medical Clinic is seeking a qualified and compassionate full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our healthcare team at Terra Nova Yates Medical Clinic. The Nurse Practitioner will provide advanced nursing care and comprehensive primary healthcare services to patients while working collaboratively with physicians and members of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

The NP will be responsible for conducting patient assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, planning and coordinating patient care, and providing guidance to patients and families regarding healthcare management and preventive care. This position involves both in-person clinical services and remote patient support, depending on clinical needs.

The clinic provides full administrative support, including Medical Office Assistants (MOAs), modern exam rooms, and an advanced EMR system. This role includes both in-person and telemedicine care, offering flexibility and supporting continuity of patient care. Overhead and operational support are partially supported through health authority funding.

Work Environment

The Nurse Practitioner will work in a clinical healthcare setting which may include:

  • Health care institutions or medical clinics
  • Physician offices
  • Hybrid work environments involving both in-person and remote care
  • Candidates must be willing to relocate if required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Assessment and Diagnosis
  • Conduct patient interviews and obtain detailed medical histories.
  • Perform comprehensive physical examinations and health assessments.
  • Evaluate patients’ physical and mental health conditions.
  • Monitor patient health status and evaluate patient care progress.

Clinical Care and Treatment

  • Provide primary healthcare services to patients across the lifespan.
  • Develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Advise patients on healthcare management and preventive care strategies.
  • Inoculate and vaccinate patients to prevent and treat diseases.
  • Diagnostic Testing
  • Order medical diagnostic and clinical tests.
  • Order laboratory tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Interpret and analyze medical test results.
  • Patient Monitoring and Care Coordination
  • Monitor patients and advise physicians of any significant changes in condition.
  • Coordinate patient care with physicians and members of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care and adjust treatment plans when required.

Maternal and Infant Care

  • Assess and monitor the health of newborns and refer infants to appropriate medical services when required.
  • Provide guidance regarding the care of newborns and young infants.
  • Provide full-course care to women and their babies during pregnancy, labour, birth, and the post-natal period, including monitoring the health of mother and baby.

Patient Education and Counseling

  • Provide advice and guidance regarding health care and disease prevention.
  • Offer end-of-life counseling and bereavement support to patients and their families.

Education

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field.

Experience

  • Experience is considered an asset.

Licensure and Certification

  • Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner

Other details

  • Average daily patient volume: 15-25
  • Optional: Hospital privileges, nursing home/extended care, house calls, ER work, ACLS
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (flexible)
  • Estimated monthly overhead: 70%
  • Dedicated computer for practitioner use with wireless, high-speed internet
  • Pay parking available
