Member Involvement

Get Involved

The Victoria Division of Family Practice invites all members to actively engage with the community and the work of the Division. Of our over 700 general and associate members, 87% are actively engaged at some level – from using our services to leading our work.

“It’s an ongoing win how the Victoria Division keeps that many physicians involved”

– Member

Make sure to come out to our regular socials and CME learning events. Once you connect with your Division and physician community, all else falls into place. Check our events calendar for e.g. the next Coffee Talk with the Board, BBQ, Welcome & Thank you, Holiday Social, or Dine & Learn.

Members are also invited to join our working groups and committees when there are openings. Backed by Division support, these groups offer members the opportunity to address local issues and develop member supports together with like-minded family physicians. Committee and working group examples include:

  • Several working groups within Care Transitions
  • Several working groups within the Long-term Care Initiative
  • Several working groups within the Primary Care Network
  • Joint Physician Health & Wellness Committee
  • Dine & Learn Committee
  • Committees of the Board: Communications, HR, Nominations, Finance
  • Pathways Steering Committee
  • IT Working Group
  • Resident Working Group

From time to time we actively recruit for committee roles. Please contact [email protected] if you are interested in getting involved and check back here regularly for postings.

Postings

The Communications Committee is looking for additional physician members

The Communications Committee provides Communications advice to the Board and oversees implementation of VDFP communication and our Division channels. This committee meets about every two months for two hours in the evening on zoom, or in person with dinner. Typically there is no prep work required. Please contact [email protected] if you are interested.

Impact and Remuneration

When you take part in the opportunities to engage in the work of the Division (e.g. serving on a committee, providing feedback to Division staff on projects and initiatives) members are recognized through payment for their time at the current Doctors of BC sessional rate.

As a member of the Division, you are contributing to a greater impact through the collective voice of the organization to collaborate, influence, and impact change throughout the primary health care system.

Member Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct sets out the minimum standard of conduct required of all Members of the Division (General and Associate) when participating in any events, meetings or other activities sponsored by the Division. This Code addresses the main relevant areas, but is not designed to be exhaustive.

  • Members shall deal with each other, and with staff of the Division, openly, honestly, truthfully and in good faith and shall observe proper decorum at all times.
  • Members’ interactions shall be courteous, respectful and free of animosity.
  • Members shall engage in respectful communication, honouring opinions, and focusing on issues not personalities.
