Do you regularly and actively admit and/or treat patients who are receiving involuntary psychiatric treatment under the Mental Health Act (MHA)? If so, Island Health requires you to complete a new, accredited online education module by January 31st.
The course can be found on the PHSA Learning Hub (Mental Health Act – Island Health online (Course # 11716)). If you are unfamiliar with the Learning Hub, this page shows you how to set up a Learning Hub account. Setting up an account is very easy and doesn’t take a lot of time.
Following the Ministry of Health’s release of the new medical certificates, Island Health will be activating the new forms site-by-site beginning November 15.
To support physicians and nurse practitioners with learning the completion requirements for the new medical certificates, Island Health is offering voluntary educational sessions. These interactive webinars use a case study to review the provincial standards for completion of the new medical certificates as well as the required practice adjustments. Session dates and times between November and February are available on the Medical Affairs webpage. Both the online module (mandatory) and the engagement sessions (voluntary) are eligible for education credits. More information, including a 14-minute forms completion video, is available on Island Health’s Mental Health Act webpage.
