Resources for extreme heat in Victoria

Newsflash July 4, 2024

Resources for extreme heat in Victoria

Environment Canada’s 2024 seasonal outlook predicts below-normal temperatures for coastal B.C., however, here are some resources you can pass on to patients who might benefit from extreme heat preparedness (also available under patient info on the Pathways homepage):

  • Greater Victoria Heat Warning Guide: brochure including Cooling Resources, The Community Virtual Care program, BC Hydro Free AC program, and a full list of Island Health resources (please email Shay at scrisp@victoriadivision.ca if you would like paper copies of this brochure)
  • Island Health Summer Heat Protection Guide: two-page overview for staying safe and cool during the summer heat

As part of our emergency preparedness work, the Victoria Division of Family Practice has been involved in planning for a coordinated regional response to a potential extreme heat event, alongside Island Health, the CRD, City of Victoria, BC Transit, and other regional partners. If you are interested in learning more or getting involved in emergency preparedness work, please contact Juna Cizman at jcizman@victoriadivision.ca.
