The Family Practice Services Committee (FPSC) and the Ministry of Health have extended the ULP Greater Victoria Pilot until March 31, 2026, with increased locum compensation coming in April 2025. We’re grateful we can continue supporting you in taking needed time away while ensuring locums are well-supported in practice.
Program impact on physician well-being
Since launching in October 2022, ULP locums have covered 1,856 shifts. Within the last two quarters 64% of all requested shifts were filled, providing much-needed relief for local physicians. The high demand underscores the ongoing need for locum coverage to support physician well-being.
Currently, 29 locums are providing coverage and 164 host physicians from 53 clinics across the Victoria and South Island PCNs have joined the ULP.
Compensation and coverage updates
Starting April 1, 2025:
- Locum compensation will increase to:
$1,286.81 per 8-hour day of service
$1,386.81 per 8-hour day after completing 60 days of service, plus a retroactive $6000 bonus, applying the higher rate to the first 60 days - Host physicians will receive 10 days of locum coverage for the new April 2025 – March 2026 phase.
The program covers host physician overhead payments of $404.76 per 8-hour day.
